GoldenEye (for the n64) is one of the greatest FPS games of all time. The James Bond games made afterwards, however, were nowhere near it. Companies tried the third-person approach, no longer making you Bond, but following Bond. The other games, such as Nightfire and the World is Not Enough did not stay faithful to the story, or in NF's case, did not have an involving one. A few new charecters showedup, but Drake was killed on the Moonraker mission. The least that these companies could do is create a new charecter. I believe that the reason for GoldenEye's sucess was the time in between the Bunker mission and the Statue mission, which filled in the story line perfectly and even explained unanswered questions from the movie. Now the games try to go all on their own, but without a new or even grabbing storyline. This is long, I know.

A great question.  Goldeneye is still one of the best FPS games I've ever played on a console.  It was groundbreaking gameplay and we had countless matches.  We even went so far as to splice the video cable so we could cover up the opposing teams half of the TV screen.

I've tried to play it recently and can't seem to master the controls again.  So, I'm afraid it must live on in glorious memory.

Yeah, so that game rocked my world, but like elvis i don't know if i have the stamina to master it once again when BOOM HEADSHOT is just a couple of clicks away.  But those were some awesome matches we had covering up the screen and turning off the radar...*reminisces and stares at computer sreen for 20 minutes while thumbs twitch in reaction*

I was the #1 top contender Golden Eye champion of the world (if the world consisted of my college roomates and elvis and shaolin).  This game has been rumored to be ported to the PC since Jedi Knight was out... '96?  and it never happened... boo hoo.  they did what they could with the one analog stick on the n64, but at this point the controls are a little strange....  still a fresh port of this would be something to marvel at

My reasons are quite interesting, it was the right product at the right time, although it's good now, it can't compare to some new games, like HL2 or Halo 2, it's like the bill gates factor, the right products at the right time. although gameplay was somewhat intersting for me, I never did like the n64 controls, I don't think it was more the gameplay but you could wate a lot of time on it. it makes no sense to me why it was so good, I suppose we could all survey the entire gaming community, but I'm way to lazy. I can honestly say this arrogant bastard does not know why.
