So I played a good bit of Dungeons and Dragons online over the weekend.   They've made the game free to play - it costs nothing for the client and there is no monthly subscription.  The gameplay is easily on par with EQ2 in most respects.  The mechanics are alot different, though.  For examaple, after a weekend of play, I'm level 3.

Most of the gameplay is instance based.  There are PvP areas, but it's not a big part of the game.  It's somewhat like guildwars with a Z-axis.  Though that doesn't really do the game justice, since the gameplay is far more indepth.  Where guildwars is mostly about brute force hack-n-slash through mobs in a fairly linear storyline, DDO is more about free-form dungeon crawling with stealth, puzzle solving, and alternate methods of achiving goals (traps, hidden rooms, optional goals, etc).  Character development is also alot different than in games like EQ2.

Overall it's alot of fun, and since its free I'll be playing a while.  I'm on the Cannith server playing Kandeed (Ranger).
