ok I'm gonna build that pc i thought i would build last year this year cause i need a business expense. something on par with the usual 800 or so. my monitor is still the best in the world, but i do want to grab a TV tuner and a huge harddrive to throw in my old pc to make it a pvr of sorts. what do you guys think is good hardware to go with for a middle class gaming rig these days? is the GTX 9800 still a good buy? is the core 2 duo still nice?

I have no idea buddy. At some point, I'm going to have to upgrade my rig at home as well, but don't see that happening for another year probably.
The TV tuner and large HD is a cool idea though, technology is coming a long ways.

I'm actually thinking of building a new PC, too. I dont have any idea what the modern awesomeness is though. I just know that my old AMD 64 3200 isn't what it used to be.
I'll be researching this over the next couple days and try to remember to write up my thoughts.

from what I can see, the GTX 9800 is still a good card and is $200 now instead of $300. The Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 seems like a really good chip for the cost... only around $110

Awesome. Sounds like a great machine. I'm not sure I'd change anything except maybe the memory - but you can't beat free!

oh awesome... are we gonna try for another game night on Thursday? I think you know my status. I am always in... Monkey and Snake are also generally in as well... if there's a game you think will get a bigger draw then I'm all for it, that is what having a group of gamers is all about. Maybe we should keep it simple and just say CSS?
