I'm like 80% sure I'll buy this when its eventually released.  Still no monthly fees, but they will have more social worlds and will have World PvP where you can duke it out in large areas.  Still need more information there, but at least it is out in the open a bit more.  Not quite like you're going to get ganked running to BlackBurrow or something, but still....

"We want everyone to eventually move on to Guild Wars 2." In order to do this, one of the major element introduced in Eye of the North will be the Hall of Monuments. This museum will allow players to store many of the great armor, weapons and achievements they've accumulated in tfhe first Guild Wars and transfer them to the new game.

That's a pretty cool idea.

that sounds kinda cool actually... i would buy this too... free mmo is a great concept and the guild wars team would be my best bet to get it right even if the first outing was a little too static for my tastes...

I would definitely be interested in this.  I am still having MMORPG withdrawal Sad  and free would be even better!

I hope they would come out with more skill/items and the ability to make as many taskbars as you want though.  I really much preferred the gameplay in eq2 over GW even without PVP

with open world pvp they will "open" the game up to all sort of exploits... i hope they don't blow it by allowing zone hopping and cheap tactics like we've all seen before... EQ2 finally got those all worked out and it only took em 3 years...  the original model that guild wars used just wouldn't work at all for open world pvp...  no jumping?  sheesh...  anyways i'm excited but i will have to be convinced before i buy the game

They need:

Jumping
Levitation
Persistant Instances with respawning mobs
Less scripted encounters
Less A to B path oriented zones
Better Loot

Clearly you've never had to make a run from the druid rings in Dreadlands at level 30.

I also forgot to add that they need mounts, and flying mounts (see levitation).

The A to B scripted zones were kind of cool the first time, but it makes the replay value essentially zero.

The loot tables need to be drastically improved, and I'm sure they will be as they change the level structures, etc.

Gotta stick to my guns on this one monkey.  Half the fun of PvP for me at least is running through a dangerous area.

But mounts are a definite yes, very essential.  Once again, flying not necessary.

Get rid of max dmg on items and vary it a little more.

Keep the A to B option for those that prefer it, but also allow non-scripted adventure

i don't think the game needs flying or jumping or even mounts to make it worth $50, but it would definitely help their cause.  the hot keys were even ok for pvp though only having 8 moves would be kinda silly.  the main thing that would have made the game better is loot like Elvis said.  we need a little pay off for all that work...  the linear missions are not even a problem so long as they have some places where you can roam and fight other players...  but as monkey has stated this open pvp would almost require contested loot/mobs to be fun at all... or at least a common place to fight as we saw in Antonica in years past

The Charr in Ascalon have all but taken over and a whole bunch of non-human races that we'll be introducing in Eye of the North have finally reached an equal footing with humanity. That allows us to set up a four way competitive dynamic but we're also introducing a fifth faction, a common enemy that threatens the whole world.

So, this is very cool and a definite plus.

the team is actually playing around with the idea of having no cap at all.

This is the suck.  No lvl limit?  EEEkkkk

Review: Still on the fence here.  World PvP still=instanced PvP no matter what kind of spin they put on it.  So, i don't like that very much.  But more PvE areas and higher lvls and hopefully more/different skills would be good.  So, we will have to wait and see i guess.

I've been hammering away at WoW lately and PvP is fun, but not for me. It takes a while to grow in PvE, takes FOREVER in PvP - maybe if i was back in college/high school and could burn so much time it would be good but a mixed environment is where its at..  I like my PvE and sometimes i'll enable my PvP flag and run by a horde base and duke it out.

What i REALLY enjoy is raiding and battlegrounds.  I raided a horde base with 24 other lvl 50's and higher and we killed everyone, went into the auction house and killed the auctioneers, went into all the NPC stores and killed everyone there. It was quite amusing. People on the horde side were pissed because they were dying and and when they resurrect they have half health so they were easy to kill again and again until they finally called in enough horde from other places to kill us and get there base back.

I also love the battlegrounds since you get to play games like CTF and hold the base and you earn honor points that you can use to satisfy some quests or to buy epic armor/weapons.

I may give GW2 a try but it sounds to me like they're going to axe all of GW1 to conver it over which is kind of a bummer if you like where you stand right now.

I love my warrior but warriors are boring in the 30-39 lvls (big rut) but 40 and higher and you get lots of goodies.  My favorite is dwarf rogue and knight elf mage and now that i have the expansion pack the new Shaman which absolutely kicks major a$$ but i'm just rolling them up to lvl 20-25 so they can make armor/open lock boxes and make potions for my warrior hehe.  The shaman i may play up eventually but i don't know if i have the nerve/patience to do it all over again.

GW2 won't replace the original.  GW will still be running, but it is gonna take a huge hit methinks.

I am still interested in WoW but need to get a trial version sometime whenever i get into my house

mounts are an absolute necessity of the scale of the worlds are anything like other MMO's..  need to feel like you get achievements and advantages for playing so long and a mount is one of 'em
